Laborelec, a part of the Engie group, is an expertise and research center in electrical power and energy technology. Based on Internet of Things they developed TankU, an intelligent cap that measures the content of tanks in industrial and residential contexts.

Up till now, reliably measuring the content of tanks has been a complicated and inefficient business. Think about it: a technician has to visit all sites in person to check the tanks. On site, the technician has to lift heavy tank covers to carry out measurements manually and is exposed to toxic fumes. There is always the risk of tanks running empty. Impact? Just think about a whole residential block without heating, in wintertime. That kind of impact.

TankU makes this process much more efficient, lowers operating costs and safety risks.

 

Serving customer needs

Laborelec realised that if they could couple TankU’s automating measurements with a great monitoring and dashboard tool, they’d have a gigantic win in their hands. They asked us to review the “OneBoard” application and make suggestions on how to better serve customer needs.

 

A great dashboard

Based on our know-how of usability principles we gave advice on how to create a sleek operational dashboard for OneBoard. One that lets users see immediately where an action is required and prioritize the actions that need to be taken. Users now have a clear view on real-time information about the status of the tanks under their supervision and are guided directly to the right action when an oil tank level reaches a predefined limit.

 

Great onboarding

The first time you use a product is a key moment. During the setup and configuration, you already form an opinion about the product: is this easy or is this hard? Any friction results in an impression that is hard to correct later on. We optimized the onboarding flow so that each new user starts with a great impression. 

 

Easily customizable

TankU serves a wide variety of customers, going from big industrial and residential facility management companies, up to syndics of smaller apartment buildings. We made the settings and filters easy to understand and work with so that users can adapt OneBoard easily to their own needs. For instance, they can define alerts so that they get a warning when certain thresholds are exceeded, so they can anticipate and act in time.
